A FORMER Royal Marine from Horrabridge, who lost his leg in a car accident and then completed the fastest unsupported solo row across the Atlantic, has reached the final ten selection stage in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2019 Against All Odds category.
Lee Spencer, 49, finished the 3,800-mile crossing from Portugal to South America in 60 days, breaking the able-bodied record for the route by 36 days.
On his journey he encountered whales, dolphins and turtles and won the support of Prince Harry, Ross Kemp and Joanna Lumley.
Lee reached the selection stage out of 50 nominations chosen by the public from around the UK.
Four finalists will be selected in each category and the winner will be announced at an awards luncheon at the Army and Navy Club, Pall Mall, London, on October 15.
Falklands war hero Simon Weston will chair the judging panel and will present the awards.
