I SEE from the article in the Times (November 3) the subject of the moving of the war memorial has raised its ugly head again. As I am the parade marshal for the Royal British Legion, I personally feel that moving the memorial would be to uproot the last ?resting place? of those war dead on the said memorial. I have lived in Tavistock all my life and have seen many changes made to the town, usually by people who have lived here for a short period of time. Are we moving the memorial in memory of the war dead, or is it to gain a few more parking spaces? As I run the Remembrance Parade for the branch of the Royal British Legion I strongly feel that where the memorial sits now is in a safe environment for all the organisations, particularly the youth organisations, to parade safely off the road, thus enabling the police to open up the roads to normal traffic once the parade is safely inside the Guildhall Car Park. Moving the memorial to a new site will only cause upheaval to future parades. Why are a so called 80% hell-bent on changing our Tavistock at such a cost?
