YOUNG people over the age of 10 are in line for a special treat in Hatherleigh next week when UK breakdance champion Dean Reeves headlines a day of music and dance workshops and entertainment in the community centre. ?Hatherleigh Live and Loud? runs from 1pm to 10pm on October 25 and costs just £2 per person with the proceeds going towards the new Hatherleigh dirt track. It is being organised by Seize the Moment Ltd, which ?empowers young people through the arts?. Youth arts worker Jane Elliott is keen for as many young people as possible to sign up. ?Hatherleigh does not get this sort of thing very often so I don?t want people to miss out,? she said. ?It is also open to those living in the villages around Hatherleigh.? There will be rock, rap and MC and DJ workshops running all afternoon with Walnut Studios, Tstyle and Rowan Ensol of the Known Assailants. UK breakdance champion Dean Reeves, aka Bboy Bugz of the Soul Mavericks, will be hosting breakdance workshops and there will be streetdance/hip hop workshops. Qualified youth workers will be on duty all day and the youth café will be open for snacks. In the evening, bands, including the Infected and Subliminal Army from Great Torrington School, together with special guests from Walnut Studios, will play a live set from 6pm to 10pm. Jane Elliott said Dean Reeves spent a three-day residency with Seize the Moment in Braunton earlier this year and it had a great impact on the young people: ?I work with a lot of challenging kids and this event was a great success. ?It is about bringing people together through music and dance and we hope to show them that you can enjoy different styles of music, not just one.? The workshops are limited to eight people at any one time but youngsters can visit the café and get a coffee or a snack while they wait to take part in different activities. Jane is encouraging anyone who wants to take part to phone up in advance or come along early on the day and sign up. She can be contacted on 07773 679559.
