A TREE expert will be on hand this Saturday to show local residents just how to prune their apple trees.

The Tavy and Tamar Apple Group has arranged the Winter Apple Pruning Day, which will be held in two orchards in the Tavy Valley near Bere Alston.

The first orchard has trees up to ten years old, whereas the second has some mature thriving apple trees, some planted in 1926.

The tutor will be Charles Staniland, who has many years of experience with such courses throughout Devon.

The day starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm, bring outdoor clothing, strong boots, gloves and a packed lunch, and any useful pruning tools.

The cost is £14 to Tavy and Tamar Apple Group members — non-members £19 — but includes two years' free membership of the group.
