Okehampton 2

ECVH 1

OKEHAMPTON ladies' hockey team overcame the league leaders with a committed team performance to give them an important win.

Columbines worked the harder of the two sides, playing skilful hockey to set up the attack.

Carol Chapman at centre half cut out a number of ECVH moves and Elaine Morgan and Julia Stone in defence tackled solidly and decisively to frustrate the ECVH forwards.

Okehampton began to settle into a good passing game which was used to effect down the right, resulting in a loose ball falling to Vicki Taylor at the edge of the circle. She struck well into the corner of the goal to score Okehampton's opener.

Okehampton went out in the second half determined to win.

The team showed improved accuracy in passing and a lovely move from Jane Jones found Alex Collins, who drilled the ball into the ECVH circle and led to a spectacular second goal.

An injury to Julie Stone led to temporary disarray in the Okehampton defence and they were unlucky to concede a goal.

Although ECVH increased the pressure for the last part of the game, Okehampton thoroughly deserved this win.

This week Okehampton are at home in the League to Weymouth at 2.30pm.

ECV Hornets 2

Okehampton 2

WITH league games over, Okehampton men's hockey club had a friendly fixture with Exeter CV Hornets.

Hornets took the lead early on when a short corner strike sneaked in on the near post.

Okehampton raised their game and attacked with purpose, but though they created chances the scoring shot proved elusive. As they pushed forward a ball out to the wing to Phil Hampson gave him the chance to beat his player and set Richard Jones up to equalise.

Hornets went ahead with a penalty stroke, moments before the half-time whistle.

The second half proved even. Andrew Carter, Tim Morgan and John Jarvis worked hard in defence, backed by Andy Harvey in goal which kept Okehampton in the game.

As the clock ticked away it appeared Okehampton would miss out, but in the dying moments they equalised. John Jarvis cleared the ball upfield to Richard Jones, who passed to George Stephens. He passed back to Jones, who made no mistake with his shot.

This week Okehampton travel to Plymouth to play PGSOB.
