Lewdown U11s v Plymstock U11s

IN their first ever cricket match in the league, Lewdown Lions U11s welcomed Plymstock to a sunny Recreation Field.

Finn Beldon and Matt Owen for Lewdown played sensibly against the Plymstock opening pace attack, with Jacob Brown and Sophie Batstone doing a fine job as next pair in. The introduction of Leon Horn and Callum Worth, both of whom have been selected to represent West Devon, took the game to the opposition. In their five overs they scored 37 runs without losing a wicket. Contributions from Adam Creasey and Nick Smith saw Lewdown score 224 in their 20 overs.

The Plymstock opening bat fell first ball, bowled by Leon Horn before Nick Smith picked up two wickets in his first three overs and there was a fine catch behind by Jacob Brown. Captain Callum Worth took two more wickets and after 11 overs, Plymstock were on -19. However opposition captain Cowan was in fine form and Plymstock won by 10 runs. The young Lewdown team fielded and bowled superbly and Fin Beldon, Matt Owen, Jacob Brown and Sophie Batstone should be proud of their first competitive performance.

l IN their second game of the season Lewdown Blues recorded their maiden victory in the league. On a wet wicket and cold day, Lewdown batted first scoring 229 from their 20 overs against Ivybridge boys with Nick Smith, Jacob Brown, Matt Owen and Morgan Scott all contributing well without losing their wicket.

The Lewdown boys knew they would have to bowl well to defend their score. Smith took one wicket, Leon Horn three and Callum Worth and Owen two each and Scott one wicket, ably assisted by some superb fielding, with two run outs restricted Ivybridge to 165 in their innings. Special mention to player of the match Lewdown's Liam Pyle who took two good catches behind the stumps.
