I WAS interested to read (Times, February 21) that Tavistock BID have negotiated free parking in Brook Street car park on certain days in March. I assume that the free parking initiative on Friday afternoons during December was a success?

I would, however, question the logic of free parking in the morning. Whilst mornings are generally quiet in town, late afternoon is equally quiet with Tavistock taking on a ghost town image at 5pm when the majority of shops close.

I would have thought it would be in the interest of all BID members to have free parking in the late afternoon, encourage shops to open later, allowing visitors to enjoy an early evening meal. The current proposal will see people dashing back to their cars at 11am and heading out of town.
