Phoenix City U16s 1

Tavistock Thistles U16s 2

THISTLES had won the previous three encounters between two evenly matched sides.

The Thistles were forced to play midfielder, Jonny Hake, in goal, and he gave an exceptional performance – commanding his area, distributing the ball well and, when required, produced some outstanding saves.

Thistles dominated the first half and created numerous chances. Josh Vernon and Ian Harvey linked up well in attack all through the game, but just lacked the finishing touch in front of goal.

Ben Langton battled hard in midfield for Thistles and showed great composure and creativity on the ball, unlocking the Phoenix defence repeatedly, forcing the keeper to make a string of saves.  Sam Newton, Sam Walker and Nick Cunningham continued to press forward in search of the opening goal, which eventually came on the stroke of half time, when Vernon was released one on one with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball into the net.

The second half began with Thistles on the attack, and defenders Robin Jones, Cadan Lowther, Ed Argles and Louis Wilson comfortably snuffing out the Phoenix attacks. However, on the hour Thistles' concentration switched off from a corner allowing City back into the game. Two minutes later Tavistock regained the lead following a freekick, which Langton controlled in the box, before firing home the winner.

Tavistock Thistles U15s 7

AFC Southway U15s 5

THISTLES produced an excellent team display with all players contributing to this winning effort, although it was leading scorer Glenn Tremblett who stole the show scoring six of his team's goals. Both sides started brightly each playing some good progressive football and wanting to attack at all times. Within 10 minutes it was 2-1 to the home side and it looked likely that it would be a high scoring match.

Tremblett, having scored the opening two for Thistles between Southway's strike, soon completed his hat-trick – all three well taken when through on the keeper.

Thistles took control from midway through the second half.  Tremblett grabbed his fourth and by the interval his strike partner Tom Goswell had made it 5-1.

Southway started the second half in determined mood and struck twice in the opening 15 minutes to bring themselves back in to the game.  Thistles were wobbling a little and were grateful to a couple of good saves from their keeper Andy Bennett.

Thistles regrouped and reorganised themselves and with Tremblett in irrepressible form they went 7-3 to take his season's goal tally to 22. In the final minutes the visitors grabbed two consolation goals. This was an excellent win with all their midfield of Martin Hoare, Kaine Withers, Harry Ogden, Dan Lowe and, in particular, Josh Drummond playing well.

Horrabridge Rangers 2

Lipson United 8

LIPSON started the game brightly and scored after two minutes when Graham shot home from ten yards. This goal seemed to wake Horrabridge up and for the next 15 minutes they dominated play, passing the ball well and had several chances, but were unable to find the finishing touch.

Horrabridge equalised on 15 minutes when good link up play between Courtney Fry and Aaron Johnson resulted in David Milligan turning well in the box and volleying past the keeper.

Horrabridge continued to play good football and both Fry and Milligan had good chances, but were denied by the Lipson keeper. Horrabridge then went to sleep and defended poorly, gifting the visitors three goals.

Rangers put Lipson under pressure from the start of the second half, but were unable to find a way past the keeper, who again saved well from both Burgess and Milligan.

Lipson scored against the run of play when Gorniak shot home from 14 yards.

The home side continued to the the better football and deservedly got back into the game when Max Burgess, Jake Murrain and Milligan all combined well to set up Courtney Fry, who drilled the ball home from 16 yards.

Horrabridge were caught on the break when Gorniak went clean through and slotted the ball in the corner of the goal.

Lipson controlled the final quarter of the game, playing some good passing football and only some good last ditch defending by centre-backs Will Glanville and Jack Northam, aided by some good goalkeeping from Oliver Cox, prevented them from adding to their tally.

Lipson scored two goals right at the end of the game when Graham and Jennings both headed home.
