THREE West Devon men used pedal power to raise thousands of pounds for charity when they cycled from John O? Groats to Land?s End this summer. Tim Woodward and Jamie Rutherford, of Chillaton, and Paul Brimble, of Tavistock, spent two weeks on the road during their marathon cycle ride, taking in the sights of Chester, Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Liverpool and Glasgow among many others along the way. Tim said they met some ?terrific? people during the ride and shared some memorable experiences, including tasting the Scottish delicacy of deep-fried haggis! ?Devon and Cornwall offered the most difficult cycling because of the number of hills, and the hardest single day was the ride from Taunton to Tavistock via Moretonhampstead,? said Tim ? the trio were forced to stop at the Warren House Inn for liquid refreshment, so hard was the going, he added. The three men paid tribute to everyone who supported them so generously and said they had been inspired by people?s generosity and goodwill. They said their wives had also been ?very tolerant? of their adventure ? although remarks about ?Last of the Summer Wine? had begun to pall! Tim and Jamie hope to present a cheque for £3,000 to the Woodlands Special School in Plymouth and Paul has raised money for the Parkinson?s Disease Society.
