A RECENT Dartmoor-themed competition for local women's institutes was won by Lamerton. The annual group meeting of the Tamar Group of six WIs was held at a packed out Lamerton Village Hall, which was decorated in primrose yellow and blue. The competition included hand-knitted walking socks, a photograph of 'the essence of Dartmoor', a floral exhibit of 'from the hedgerow' and rock buns. Lamerton exhibits were entered by members Lillian Taylor, Ann Walton-Waters and Sandra Parris. Speaker for the meeting was Dartmoor expert Paul Rendell. The competition results were close but Lamerton WI won first prize — the coveted shield — with Broadwoodwidger WI and Lewtrenchard WI sharing the plate for second position. • Next year is the centenary of the National Federation of Women's Institutes and Lewtrenchard will host the group's competition on that occasion.
