Lamerton 0
St Mawgan 1
A SECOND consecutive home defeat to start the new campaign for Lamerton was not on the cards against a poor St Mawgan side. James Olson's excellent strike put St Mawgan ahead after he evaded three weak challenges on the edge of the box and found the top corner with the outside of his foot.
Lamerton chances started immediately after the goal. Kev Swift put Graham Galway and Steve Gibbings through; Galway's lob looped over and Gibbings attempt was saved by keeper Ronnie.
Dan Healy missed two great opportunities, again with just the keeper to beat; a mis-kick let him in on the edge of the box, but his strike thumped against the crossbar and then down the left running in on goal, he opted to roll in an unmarked Galway rather than shoot, but he scuffed his pass and managed neither. Swift had his own chances too but Ronnie was in inspired form.
St Mawgan became more resolute in the second half.
Lamerton still could have scored from a Swift free kick, which bounced just in front of Ronnie and he somehow managed to get something on it to flick it over the bar. Healy's whipped cross saw Blair Vanstone stretch at the back post and look certain to score, but again Ronnie was in the way. It was one of those days in front of goal for Lamerton.
l On Saturday Lamerton are away to Launceston, ko off at 2.30pm.
