Lamerton 1

Edgecumbe 0

FOLLOWING their midweek victory over Calstock in a closely contested game, Lamerton took on Edgecumbe hoping to complete a league double over them.

Paul Breyley broke clear from midfield and was unlucky when his powerful shot was deflected onto the crossbar by the Edgecumbe keeper. Then the visitors were unfortunate when an effort from outside the box rattled the upright.

The stalemate was broken when Breyley released Stan Sargent down the left. He cut into the box and was fouled, but Simon Pocknell rolled the ball into the net to score.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with conditions favouring the defences and what half-chances did occur fell to the home side. The battle for possession in midfield was won by Lamerton with Kev Swift dominant, ably assisted by Breyley and Will Cann while Pocknell worked tirelessly up front.

This Saturday Lamerton travel to Dobwalls for a league game (kick-off 2.30pm) and on Tuesday 29th they visit the same venue in the Jeffreys Estate Agents Cup semi final against the high flying Biscovey (kick-off 6.30pm) .

Calstock 1

St Stephens 3

AFTER hammering Calstock early on in the season at home, St Stephens kicked off with an air of complacency.

Seventeen-year-old Barry Hemmett opened the scoring for Calstock after ten minutes.

It spurred St Stephens into action and they were soon on level terms after a sweetly struck shot curled into the Calstock net.

Shortly after, Calstock keeper Michael Yarwood tipped a shot, destined for the top left hand corner of the goal, over the bar.

The second half kicked off with Calstock down to ten men after an injury. St Stephens piled on the pressure. The Calstock defence of Garry Underwood and Adz Baker fought back well, but it was only a matter of time before St Stephens scored two more goals.

Lamerton 2

ON a warm night Lamerton came to rack up the goals but were met by a stubborn Calstock team who rose to the occasion with organised play.

Midway through the first half Lamerton where awarded a penalty which Lee Wickett converted.

In the second half Calstock took the game to Lamerton. An excellent save from their keeper kept them in the lead.

The game was played from end to end with both teams providing entertaining football. Calstock?s Garry Underwood had an exceptional game as did Cook, Hewitt and Pook.

Calstock keeper Michael Yarwood made two good saves, keeping the game flowing, until the 85th minute when Lamerton?s Lee Wickett crossed the ball and Paul Cowling headed home.

Man of the match: Garry Underwood (Calstock).

Callington 2

Stoke Climsland 0

WITH both sides missing key players, Callington?s greater depth of players came out on top and they got revenge for the midweek defeat by Stoke, which dented their push for promotion.

Callington never allowed Stoke a chance. On the half-hour, Hawke managed to get good control and slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

With Wooley, looking strong at centre back and Smith covering all of midfield, there was no way through for Stoke.

Stoke made things difficult in the second half, using the wind to get the ball forward, but with Tom Reid, captain for the day, in ?they shall not pass mode? Callington had more control of the ball.

It came as no surprise when Hawke controlled a long ball into the Stoke defence and placed it wide of Saunders for the goal that settled a closely fought local derby.
