Jewson South Western League Cup first round
Tavistock 1
Millbrook 1
(aet)
TIMES Gazette match competition winner Toby Wheddon and his guests Mike Gard and Sam Winfield went away having witnessed a stirring cup tie that had all the ingredients.
Even extra time could not separate the teams and it will be all to play for in the replay at Mill Park with the date to be fixed.
Danny McTighe came into the starting line-up for Wayne Crow in what was otherwise an unchanged side to last week's game at Porthleven. Marcus Crocker was welcomed back to the squad after a lengthy spell off with a hernia operation and Tony Cusack was back after a small operation.
The first real chance fell to Millbrook when ex-Lambs strikers Jeff Babb and Andy Bowker combined for the latter to send in a cross for Justin Norman to place his header into the welcome hands of Andy Meeds.
John Gosling brought out the best in former Plymouth Argyle keeper James Dungey and Lee Cansfield's strong challenge on him set up Chris Gott but his shot went over the bar.
The second half started at a more frantic pace. The Lambs should have opened the scoring when Dean Tongue went clear in the area only to shoot wide with the goal at his mercy. Chances were coming left, right and centre with Craig Hodge for the home side and Babb shooting over from close range.
Tavistock took a deserved lead on 74 minutes when Millbrook conceded a free kick on the edge of the area and while the defence was sorting itself out with a 'wall' Cansfield put the ball beyond the reach of Dungey.
The lead did not last for more than three minutes as McTighe was adjudged to have pushed Norman in the area. For the second time this season Meeds saved the spot kick only to be penalised for moving before the kick was taken. Anthony Thirlby made no mistake with his second attempt to put the visitors on level terms.
Extra time became inevitable. It would have taken just one effort from either side to put them through to the next round and each one had the chances to do it. Babb got out of his brother, Darren's, pocket on one occasion to turn sharply and send the ball flashing past Meed's post and Tongue saw his shot palmed away by Dungey in the latter stages but in the end a draw seemed the fairest result.
