Carlsberg South Western League

Newquay . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4

Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0

THE Lambs quest for their first victory in the league this season continues after this performance.

Facing a strong wind in the first half they kept the score line goalless thanks to the efforts of keeper Andy Meeds who saved twice in quick succession after 10 minutes to deny Glenn Squires and Luke Wheldon. The nearest the Lambs came was a header from Sean Cann and a snap shot from Paul Adcock with both attempts going just wide and over.

Tavistock almost took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Mark Wall?s ball into the area was flicked on by Adcock for Will Westlake to have sight of goal. Dave Wilton brought off a good save but fumbled the ball and despite Adcock getting a touch to it he was able to gather it in. The home side finally made the breakthrough just after the hour.

Tom Barwell fouled on the edge of the area and not for the first time this season the Lambs could not prevent a goal scored from a set piece as Squires found a gap in the wall to blast past Meeds despite getting a hand to it.

Meeds did well minutes later when from a corner he punched away for the ball to fall kindly for Jody Dean to volley back and the keeper palmed the ball over the bar.

With just over 10 minutes remaining the Lambs found themselves down to 10 men with Barwell receiving his marching orders after a second caution. It changed the game as Newquay poured forward and with 5 minutes left they increased their lead.

The Lambs then went to pieces as Squires completed his hat trick with a solo run on full time. The scoring was completed in injury time as Ryan Curtis went down the wing to send in a cross for sub Kieron Avery to steer home from close range to complete a miserable day for the Lambs.
