THE Lambs recorded their first win for well over a decade against the Fishermen, despite being without the services of John Hadjiyianni and Paul Adcock - they were replaced by Mark Wall in midfield and Simon Parnell up front.

Chris Gott, still suffering from an ankle injury, decided to sit on the subs? bench to be replaced by Wayne Crow.

The playing surface had a hard crust on it but it did not deter from an exciting game with players able to run, turn and keep their feet. The home side got off to the perfect start with two goals inside the first ten minutes.

The game was just three minutes old when Parnell laid off the ball for Lee Doncaster to force keeper Penhaligan to turn the ball around a post for a corner. James Cole?s kick was turned back across goal for Doncaster to send in a shot that Paul Smith got a touch on to steer home from close range.

It was Doncaster again when he turned defender Alan Roberts and shot across Penhaligan for John Gosling to come rushing in at the far post to smash it home.

The visitors showed their class to get a goal back on 25 minutes when Craig Swiggs? through-ball was latched onto by Nigel Thwaites whose first-time effort sailed past Andy Meeds.

They got back on level terms five minutes before the break when Luke Hodge?s early low cross into the area was controlled by Nicky Medlin to turn and shoot high into the net from close range.

Lee Beer cleared off the line for the Lambs early in the second half and they had appeals for a penalty on the hour turned down, but five minutes later they got one as Doncaster turned in the area only to go tumbling after a heavy challenge. Up stepped Smith to shoot low past Penhaligan for his second goal of the game.

The Lambs then had to defend for long periods as the visitors went looking for the equaliser but they lived up to their name with the second best defensive record in the league and held out for an historic victory which cements their second in the table position.
