Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier
Tavistock AFC 4
Holsworthy 1
THE Lambs welcomed back Shane Krac from suspension and Glyn Hobbs had recovered sufficiently from his foot injury to take his place in attack. With the team almost back to full strength there was a marked improvement in their performance.
The Lambs took a while to settle into any rhythm but once they got their passing game going, after the first 15 minutes they dominated the game from there on.
Tavistock should have been at least three goals up before they finally opened their account in the 30th minute.
Influential mid fielder Krac put in a powerful shot from 20 yards, which the visitor's goalkeeper Tom Beeman could only parry into Carter's path, for him to slot home.
Tavistock continued to press forward and scored a second on 42 minutes after good work by Coxon who provided a perfect cross for Chris Menhennick to power home a header from six yards.
Just before the interval Holsworthy got back into the game when some sloppy play by the home team resulted in the visitors gaining possession well inside their half and some neat passing resulted in Michael Landricombe being put in on goal to beat the advancing Andy Meeds low down to his left.
Any hopes of a come back were almost immediately dispelled when, after some top quality play in midfield, it resulted in the ball falling to Glyn Hobbs — his shot was blocked but the ball fell to Lee Coxon to finish in fine style and make it 3-1 at the interval.
In the second half the Lambs continued to lay siege on the Holsworthy goal with long periods in possession of the ball.
Chances were being created and if it was not for some good goalkeeping and lady luck going the visitor's way they should have been out of sight.
The Lambs continued to miss good opportunities to extend their lead, but somehow the Holsworthy defence kept them at bay.
The Lambs added a fourth in the 80th minute when Hobbs broke free from the half way line to round the advancing goalkeeper and slot home.
This was a much better performance by the team. The Lambs have a potent attacking force, and new signing Adam Carter has shown himself to lead the front line and his ability to hold the ball and build moves will cause defences in this league problems.
The team is now beginning to take shape and the next few weeks will be crucial to the Lambs season.
l This Saturday they visit Buckland Athletic, kick-off 3pm, before on Bank Holiday Monday the Lambs are away to Bovey Tracey, kick-off 2.30pm. Yelverton Taxis are running a mini bus for the Bovey Tracey match contact Eric Pinch for further details.
