Carlsberg South Western

Tavistock 4

Newquay 1

THE Lambs ended a run of six games without a victory with this convincing win over the Peppermints.

The Lambs had the better of the first half with Antony Thirlby having two attempts deflected in the first 12 minutes but it was not until the 37th minute that they went ahead. Thirlby and James Cole combined on the wing for the latter to send in a cross that saw Parnell race in and get to the ball ahead of keeper Wilton and head home from close range.

They increased their lead on the hour after Chris Gott had been fouled out wide. Cole's cross was headed back across goal by Darren Babb for Carwardine to pounce and slot home.

But then the Lambs appeared to lack concentration with the visitors almost getting a goal back. Slack play saw Andy Meeds having to come off his line and clear but it only went to a Newquay player whose return goalbound shot was headed clear by Craig Hodge.

Carwardine blotted his copybook after being fouled and tussling with Newquay's Martin Lentern - both were given red cards. The resultant free kick was awarded to Tavistock and Blamey duly placed the ball wide of Wilton to put the Lambs three up.

With four minutes left Thirlby hit a post after a short corner and on the stroke of full time Newquay gained a consolation goal after an under-hit back pass to Meeds saw him put under pressure by Mark Hope who won possession to slot home into an empty net.

There was a full seven minutes of injury time and in it the Lambs created three good chances, Wilton denying Cole then Daymond but finally beaten after Parnell sprung the offside trap to go one-on-one with the keeper. His first shot was saved but the rebound fell nicely for him to roll the ball home just inside the post and round off a great performance by the Lambs.
