South West Peninsula league Throgmorton cup final Bodmin 2 Tavistock AFC 1 TAVISTOCK'S end of a season finished on a flat note following a disappointing loss to the league champions in the inaugural SWPC Throgmorton cup final at Torpoint. Dave Chanter, the club's physiotherapist, said: 'In sport as in life special moments come all too infrequently — when they do, some grasp the opportunity in both hands while others let it pass them by. Perhaps that is the difference between winners and losers, those that achieve and those that fail. It was a case of carpe diem (seize the day).' The game itself while full of incident was never a great spectacle. Tavistock's main threat Glyn Hobbs was kept subdued by a resolute Bodmin defence and too many Tavistock players produced below par performances on the day. Bodmin's tactic of getting the ball from back to front very quickly tended to negate the Lambs' midfield and as a result Tavistock were never allowed to play their passing game. In a first half devoid of many chances Bodmin led through a goal when a loss of possession by the Lambs resulted in a cross and simple tap in at the far post. The second half followed in the same vein. Tavistock made the worst possible start by conceding within five minutes. An innocuous high ball saw Andy Meeds challenged with the ball rather fortuitously ending in the net. At this stage Tavistock started to show more fortitude and midway through the half Will Stringer reduced the arrears with a far post header. Tavistock probed for an equaliser and in the dying seconds substitute Paul Cowling saw his effort agonisingly come back off the post. However Bodmin hung on and deservedly lifted the trophy to register a league and cup double.
