Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 5 Penzance 3 THIS eight goal thriller to use an old cliché was ?a game of two halves?. It was the Lambs who had the first, going ahead after 12 minutes . John Morris laid the ball up to Glyn Hobbs well outside of the area but his first touch took him around his marker to stride on and shoot low past keeper Paul Williams. Hobbs had another chance three minutes later when he again got past the last line of defence to round Williams but took it just too far for the ball to go out of play. Darren Steadman shot straight at Andy Meeds from a free kick before the Lambs increased their lead on 20 minutes. Sean Cann?s through ball saw Hobbs away again and this time he unselfishly passed across goal for the unmarked Mark Conday to slot home. It was the last action from Conday who, picking up an injury, was replaced by Paul Cowling. It got even better for the Lambs with 10 minutes of the half remaining as Hobbs fed Morris coming from behind to stride into the area and stab at the ball. Williams got a touch to it but it went up into the air and rolled slowly over the line to put them firmly in control. Penzance gave themselves a life line just prior to the interval when a Lambs attack broke down in midfield and Shane Krac conceded a free kick on the edge of the area. Wayne Quinn the former Newcasle United player took the kick and despite Meeds getting a touch on it the ball flew in. This seemed to spur on the visitors as they came out for the second half and had the Lambs on the back foot with Liam Bennett and Dave Burt each going close in the opening minutes. But it was not until the 68th minute before they got their second. From a Quinn cross Darren Ball got in a looping header that went over Meeds, hit the post, then Meeds, to fall into the net. Shane Krac almost gave the Lambs some breathing space minutes later when a James Steer run and pass set him up to let fly from 30 yards only to see the ball go inches wide. The Magpies got themselves back on level terms with three minutes remaining as Cann?s mistake in his own half was latched onto by Karl Curtis to go forward and blast past Meeds. The Lamb?s second half display was almost alien to their first and the home side and its supporters would probably have settled for a point but Hobbs had other ideas and helped to bring an exiting game to a close. It was right on full time when he received the ball out wide on the left to go at defenders and shoot in low. Williams got a hand to it but it fell invitingly for sub John Hadjiyianni to stab home from 6 yards. They were still not finished when two minutes later Man of the match Hobbs received the ball again out wide. He cut in and weaved past defenders and this time with no help shot home to give the Lambs a very late victory that puts them back on top of the table.
