Carlsberg South Western League

Plymouth Parkway 1

Tavistock 3

AT the eleventh time of asking Tavistock finally recorded their first Carlsberg South Western League victory of the season and the Lambs? supporters must wish that their favourites could play Parkway every game.

Parkway had already been beaten by the Lambs in the League Cup and this game featured ex-Parkway players Darren Edwards and Mark Conday in the visitors? starting line-up.

Lambs joint manager Craig Smith was obviously delighted after the final whistle. He said: ?Apart from last week?s disappointment in the Premier Cup we have only lost one of our last five games and this result was a reward for the players who have stuck with us this year.

?Many have deserted the ship which is now back on course and will be looking to build on this result and continue our move up the league,? he added.

The visitors opened the scoring after eight minutes when a free-kick, near the right-hand corner of the penalty area, was struck fiercely by Duncan Duthie across the face of James Dungey?s goal and into the top left-hand corner.

Parkway applied pressure in their search for an equaliser and were unlucky to be denied a penalty on 24 minutes when Koran Whitfeld was upended.

Five minutes later Marcus Crocker?s header, from a left-wing free-kick, was superbly pushed against the visitors? post by Lambs goalkeeper Andy Meeds.

Tavistock replied with Edwards? free-kick flying just wide before Conday and Craig Hodge both went close.

Parkway then had a purple 10 minute patch when three good chances were spurned by Kevin Parker.

Firstly he chose to pass when unmarked 10 yards from goal, then his shot from Whitfeld?s cross was tipped over by Andy Meeds, and finally he failed to get in an effort when clear through with just Meeds to beat.

The opening of the second half was fairly quiet but Parkway equalised, in controversial fashion, on 70 minutes as several players appeared offside when a long ball was played over the Tavistock defence.

Whitfeld gathered the ball to pass into the path of Darren Lawton who was left with an empty net to steer the ball into.

Parkway could not add to their fortune and Tavistock deservedly restored their lead five minutes from time when Conday bundled home a left-wing cross from Steve Daymond.

To make matters worse for the home side Craig Hodge added a third with almost the last kick of the game when he powered home Daymond?s cross from 10 yards to seal a long awaited victory for the Lambs.
