Carlsberg South Western League
Tavistock 3
Liskeard 2
THE Lambs returned to winning ways in this Boxing Day encounter with missed chances, goalmouth incidents and goal-line clearances at both ends in this five goal thriller.
Tavistock took the lead on 15 minutes after good work from Paul Adcock crossed to the near post for Will Westlake to convert from six yards.
Both sides hit the woodwork and had chances cleared off the line before the Lambs took a two-goal cushion into the break. Adcock was again the provider as he sent Westlake away with Liskeard appealing in vain for offside. Westlake drew keeper Rice to coolly slot the ball under him.
The Blues got themselves back into the game five minutes into the second half as John James crossed for Harry Richardson to side-foot into the net from close range past Lambs keeper Andy Meeds.
The score remained like that until ten minutes from time and then came a rare occurrence. Meeds? long punt out from his area bounced once to clear the Liskeard defence, took another to clear the stranded Rice and settled in the net to give the Lambs a two-goal cushion for the second time.
Deep into injury time James showed good control to volley past Meeds but it was too late to trouble the Lambs further.
It is quarter-finals day this Saturday in the South Western League Cup which the Lambs have no part in. But they travel down to West Cornwall for an intriguing league match as they take on Porthleven in a rearranged game with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Both sides are on 30 points having played 18 games with the Fishermen just above them on goal difference. Three points for the Lambs would see them leapfrog over them and St Austell to secure fourth place.
The P&D side are back in action after a Christmas and New Year break as they host University A at Langsford Park with a 2.15pm kick-off.
