FA Vase Pickering Town 3 Tavistock 0 TAVISTOCK?s fine run in the FA Vase came to an end in North Yorkshire as a very good Pickering side scored three second half goals to end the Carlsberg South Western League outfit?s resistance. Defeat was no disgrace for the Lambs against an opponent who play in standard two levels above them and their run to the last 32 of a National Cup competition is to be applauded. The Lambs more than held their own in a goalless first half and even had the opportunities to open the scoring although Lee Nogan should have given Pickering the lead on 20 minutes. The home striker caught Jon Morris in possession to bear down on goal only to shoot wide when faced only by goalkeeper Andy Meeds. Tavistock replied with a quick break, on the half-hour, that found Sean Cann crossing for Will Stringer to miss a great chance from in front of goal. Two minutes later Morris was denied by a fine save from the home ?keeper after Mike Arscott, Stringer and Mark Conday had combined to set the chance up for him. It was not all Tavistock. Meeds had to be alert to prevent Nogan sending his side in at the break with the advantage and on the stroke of half-time Ricky Greening worked his way into the Lambs? box only to slice his shot wide. Unfortunately Tavistock never recovered from going a goal down in the second minute of the second half as Nogan fired across Meeds and into the far corner. It was 2-0 eight minutes later, and effectively game over, as Meeds failed to gather Greening?s cross to leave James Drinkell with the simple task of steering the ball into an empty net. Pickering completed the scoring 20 minutes from time when another cross from man-of-the-match Greening caused havoc in the visitors? area before Steve Swales stabbed the ball home. l This Saturday Carlsberg home to Callington ko 2-30pm.
