Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 1 Plymouth Argyle 1 THE Lambs were good value as they earned an excellent point against the Argyle professionals. Chris Short returned to replace the injured Nigel Pugh for the home side with Ryan Honey in for Adrian Payne. Tavistock found themselves a goal down after just five minutes when from a Martin Watts free kick Argyle central defender Paul Kendall arrived at the far post to head home unchallenged. Will Stringer went close for the Lambs' before a good move from the young Argyle side opened up the Lambs defence as Shane Duggan's cross-field pass put Damien McCroy in on goal, but keeper Andy Meeds did well to block his effort and Dan Smith followed up but sent the ball the wrong side of an upright from the edge of the goal area. Mark Conday for Tavistock put in James Steer but his shot went wide. Meeds for the home side did well again on 42 minutes when a McCroy cross come shot from out wide saw the keeper back pedalling to tip his effort over the bar. Conday had a chance on 55 minutes but shot weakly with Ryan Honey reaching the by-line on the hour with his low cross scrambled away. With Tavistock one-nil down there was always the chance that the Lambs would get back on level terms and so it proved to be on 70 minutes. Honey's through ball saw Conday in a race between himself and keeper Tim Sandercombe and the Lambs' striker got his shot away past the keeper to go in off a post for a deserved equaliser. The home side then looked to go for the winner. Glynn Hobbs then created two chances immediately with two solo runs with Sandercombe parrying his first effort and the second flashing across the face of the goal. Shane Krac's free kick saw Tavistock sub Joe Davey get a touch but the ball was scrambled away by the Argyle's defence. Conday was sent tumbling and appeals for a penalty were turned away for a free kick to be awarded on the edge of the area. However it was the visitors who finished the stronger as the Lambs squandered possession too easily as the game drew to a close, but they held on for the draw. Team: Andy Meeds, Lee Ireland (sub Joe Davey 75m), Lee Bevan, Will Stringer (sub Jimmy Kiely 77m), Mike Arscott, Chris Short (sub Neil Kinsman 77m), Ryan Honey, Shane Krac, Glynn Hobbs, Mark Conday, James Steer. Substitutes not used Adrian Payne and Nigel Pugh. Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 2 Newquay 0 THE Lambs finally came through this tricky encounter last week to gain victory by two clear goals despite having to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men. Both sides created chances in the first half. Newquay's Bradley Ralph's last ditch tackle on Mark Conday prevented him from scoring. There was a hectic spell around the 20 minute mark as both sides could have gone ahead. Glynn Hobbs for the Lambs saw Dave Philp parry his shot and on the counter attack Lance Bailey shot over for the visitors and a minute later Hobbs had a great chance but blasted wide with the goal at his mercy after Conday had caused confusion with Ralph and Philp. Lee Rickard saw his effort go just wide of post and bar in the first minute of the second half but it was the Lambs who went ahead just prior to the hour. Conday was set free up the right and his low cross in saw Hobbs slip but he regained his feet to work himself into a scoring position on the edge of the area to shoot low past Philp. The visitors almost replied with Rickard's run into the area but Andy Meeds did well to turn his close effort around a post. Tavistock's Shane Krac got himself sent off on 70 minutes with a reckless challenge and retaliation on Ralph. However despite being down to 10 men the Lambs got their second a minute later when Hobbs received a pass from a short corner to send the ball across from the by-line to the far post for captain Will Stringer to volley home. Subs Ryan Honey and Jimmy Kiely went close as the game drew to an end but the Lambs kept any late recovery from Newquay at bay to run out worthy winners. l Forthcoming fixtures: tomorrow, Good Friday, the first team are away to Launceston; on Saturday Tavistock's East Cornwall league team is at home to St Columb Major, kick-off at 2.30pm. On Wednesday, April 11 the Carlsberg side is away to Callington.
