Carlsberg South Western League

Falmouth Town 3

Tavistock 1

DESPITE heavy overnight and early morning rain the playing surface was deemed just about playable, but after this show the Lambs wished the game had gone the same way as all the remainder of the league games and been postponed.

The Lambs enjoyed a strong wind on their backs in the first half with James Steer going close from a Nathan Blamey free kick after ten minutes.

Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds saved from Wayne Brown on Town?s first attack after 15 minutes.

Despite the tricky conditions the Lambs attempted to play a passing game and took the lead with five minutes of the first half remaining.

A sweeping move from defence, involving Meeds, Craig Hodge, Chris Short, Dave Hallett and Paul Adcock saw the latter get past the Town defence to take his time and rifle his shot past Brokenshire.

A goal to the good was never going to be enough with the wind advantage and the Lambs had to defend for the first part of the second half.

Defender Brown sent in a free kick that saw Meeds do well to palm away for a corner on 48 minutes.

Paul Smith for Tavistock saw his free kick go wide and Darrent Babb had to be replaced through injury on the hour by Adrian Payne.

Meeds then palmed a corner kick onto his post but after a series of corner kicks the Lambs finally succumbed to sustained pressure with Rob Francis heading home from Brown?s kick.

With a quarter of an hour remaining, the Lambs almost restored their lead with another four-man move but Hallett?s strike with the outside of his boot shaved just over the bar.

Three minutes later Town went ahead in somewhat controversial fashion. Liam Heenan, outstripping the Lambs defence, seemed to have miss-kicked and fell to the ground but the referee adjudged that Hodge had tripped him from behind.

Meeds did well to save Brown?s spot kick but the ball fell kindly for him to follow up and shoot home.

The home side sewed the game up with five minutes remaining with a third set-piece with Brown again the provider as Jake Ash headed home.

No Carlsberg fixtures for two weeks but the P&D side are home this Saturday to Roborough with a 2.15pm kick-off.
