Carlsberg South Western League

Tavistock 0

Plymouth Parkway 2

THIS game turned out to be a disaster for the Lambs as they surrendered their unbeaten home record. Darren Babb failed to make the start due to a rib injury and his absence appeared to upset the shape of the Lambs. They were soon on the back-foot as after five minutes Andy Meeds had to tip a goalbound effort from ex-Lambs striker Andy Bowker over the bar.

Strong appeals for a penalty were waived away as Steve Daymond went tumbling from a challenge behind by Dave Powell and Parkway rubbed salt into the wounds just after when Bowker centred for Mark Conday to head back across goal for Charlie Pond to stab home at the second attempt.

Parkway were fortunate to go two up five minutes before the break when Bowker cut in to send a shot that took a deflection off Lee Beer to leave Meeds stranded.

The second half went a little better but it was not going to be the Lambs' evening as Jeff Babb shot straight at the keeper and Jason Carwardine ballooned one over from close range. 'Our worst display of the season and best forgotten' was joint manager Chris Abbott's opinion at the end.

THE Lambs bounced back from the defeat by Parkway with this convincing win over the Lillywhites in the cup. Despite having seven players missing from their squad they proved too strong for a side who have not scored in their five previous home games.

It took them until the 25th minute to open their account when Lee Beer scored a fine individual goal. He picked up Andy Meeds' throw deep in his own half to carry the ball 75 yards to cut in and curl it around Neil Hunkin. Ten minutes later the Lambs were two up when Paul Quinn was adjudged to have handled a Mark Wall shot on the line. Andy Parnowski made no mistake with the spot-kick.

Jason Carwardine made a good run to provide Steve Daymond the opportunity to put the Lambs three up. Substitute Rob Hawkins rounded off a good afternoon when he slotted home Beer's cut-back on the stroke of full time for his first senior goal to put the Lambs into the last eight.
