FOLLOWING a wet and windy summer which destroyed many apple crops across the country, South West Lakes Trust has teamed up with cider, juice and preserves producer Cornish Orchards, to become a part of their Community Apple Project.
South West Lakes Trust will have collection points at Lakeside, Roadford Lake and Siblyback Lake and will be encouraging locals to donate apples. They will then be used to create Cornish Orchards' 2012 Heritage Cider which recently won two gold stars in the Great Taste Awards, nicknamed 'Community Cider'.
Colin Vallance, head of heritage and hospitality at South West Lakes Trust said: 'At the Lakes we are passionate about supporting local businesses and Cornish suppliers, so are very pleased to be working with Cornish Orchards to assist with their Community Apple Project and would like to encourage anyone in the locality who has apples to spare to come along and drop them off at Lakeside, Roadford Lake or Siblyback Lake so that we can pass them on to Cornish Orchards.'
The money raised from these donations will go towards the conservation of nature and wildlife at both sites.
Those who donate apples will be entered into a competition to win a cream tea for two and a ferry trip for two on the solar-powered leisure boat at Roadford Lake.
On October 13, South West Lakes Trust will also be holding a pasty and cider evening at Lakeside, Roadford Lake, in celebration of National Apple Day.
Cornish Orchards will have a stand at the event where the Cornish Wurzells will also be performing.
