THE women of Tavistock Community Ladies Football Club will be swapping their boots for bikes this weekend, as they gear up to cycle more than 40-miles to Plymouth and back in an array of costumes to raise money for the club.
After a difficult start to the season, with a lack of manager and players, the club is keen to raise funds to cover its running costs.
The team, who will all be wearing fancy dress outfits, will cycle along Drake's Trail from Tavistock to the Plymouth Hoe and back again on Saturday, October 5.
Player and acting manager Tania Coker said: 'We haven't had the best start to the season with having no manager or coach and barely a team, we have organised training amongst ourselves and I have now taken over the role as manager as well as playing.
'We have now more than 20 ladies signed on and still more joining.
'With the cost of playing football increasing, as a team we thought of different ways to fundraise money to cover the running costs of our team, such as helping to cover the cost of training facilities, referee fees, laundering the kit and equipment.'
This will be the first of many fundraisers for the team.
The fancy dress cycle will set off from the Meadows at 10.30am.
Anyone who would like to support the ladies can do so by waving the girls off from the Meadows where they will have collection buckets and sponsorship forms or contact the club secretary Nicola on 07825 564628.
