THE Lady Captain's Day held at Tavistock Golf Club earlier this month raised £800 for the Alice Rose Trust.

More than 50 players took part in the fun shotgun three ball better ball stableford competition organised by ladies' captain Wendy Hanwell.

'The sum raised far exceeded my expectations,' said Wendy. 'I am so grateful to all those who supported the day, especially James Ruth who stood on the first tee for four hours taking the drive and to Ken Kendall who putted on the 14th. Between them they raised over £100.'

Results: 1st prize, Chris Leach, Lesley Gibson, Norma Baker; 2nd, Elizabeth Holmes, Angela Howard, Trudi Luke; 3rd, Norma Thewlis, Sue Draper, Pat Gove.

Nearest the pin in two on the first hole, prize donated by Graham Ruth, was won by Ginny Samborne. Nearest the pin on the seventh, Veronika Haydon-Foster and longest drive, Mhairi McColl.

l Tavistock Golf Club held their closed meeting on September 2. Nicky Gawman (nett 67) won the Chris Leach trophy for the best nett score.

The scratch prize went to Victoria Coe with a gross 76.

The following day saw another sunny day for the autumn foursomes. Results: 1, Judy Nelson and Rosemary Pratt (East Devon), 36 points; 2, Gillian Down and Jill Durling (Bude and Holsworthy) 35 points; 3, Sue Kershaw and Shirley Haydon (Bude) 34 points; 4, Sue Prince and Ginny Jenkinson (Stover) 33 points (c/b).

The Rose Bowls, awarded to the best Tavistock score, went to Bev Ruth and Nicky Gawman.

Yet another dry day greeted the ladies for the Tavistock v Yelverton friendly match on Friday at Yelverton. Tavistock won 3:1.
