Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 9
Bodmin 2
WITH only ten players available Tavistock were determined to put up a good fight and prove that they can still play well and win even when the chips are down!
The game opened with the opposition heavy on the attack and despite Tavistock making some good tackles, Bodmin were able to sneak past the defence and score the first goal.
A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and it was the hefty strike from Susannah Boulle that equalised the score at 1-1. There was a little ?glip? in the communication of the defence which resulted in Bodmin being awarded a short corner and despite every effort the ball dribbled over the goal line. Tavistock knew that they were going to have to lift their game and play some good passing hockey.
Julia Firth fed a great ball which Lisa Butler struck past the keeper with force and determination. Boulle was also on form and had a great shot on goal and scored.
At half-time Tavistock were in the lead 3-2 and were definitely looking the stronger team.
Judy Miller was goal hanging on the post and this worked a treat as when the ball was shot on goal Miller picked up the rebound ball and secured it safely into the net. Armstrong was working hard and never stopped trying to score, it was through one of her shots at goal that Firth was on the goal post and slipped the ball back into the keeper. This took the score to 5-2.
Goalkeeper, Zoe Viggers, had an excellent match in goal and made some crucial saves. Another short corner was awarded and yet again Boulle scored her hat trick of the match.
With the score at 6-2 Tavistock were really playing well and despite being a player short, the team allowed the ball to do all the work.
Dunn had numerous good lead runs up the pitch. Miller, Armstrong and Firth were working hard in the ?D?.
This resulted in Miller scoring again from a well positioned angle. Dunn had a break and ran up the pitch drawing certain defenders away from the goal allowing the ball to be struck to Armstrong who slotted it past the keeper.
The final goal came from Armstrong as she dribbled into the ?D? and took a hefty strike. This was by far one of the team?s better performaces so far this season.
This week Tavistock are at home 12.30pm, Bickleigh Barracks against Plymouth&Marjons 2pm.
Player of The match: Julia Firth
