ALL matches in the P&D Tennis League Competitions have now been completed where overall for the Tavistock Tennis Club results for the men?s and juniors? teams were good but for the ladies somewhat disappointing.
The men?s B team winning Div 2 gained promotion to Div 1, joining the A team who maintained their position, so for next season the club have two teams in Div 1 for the first time.
The C and D teams both did well in gaining promotion to Divs 3 and 5 respectively and the new E team in Div 7 had some good matches where there was some strong opposition to remain in that Division.
With 5 teams the club now has strength in depth with the men, new players participating and juniors playing up to gain experience.
The ladies? A team are demoted from Div 2 to Div 3, the B team in Div 4 promoted to Div 3 so giving two teams in that Div next year and the C team demoted from Div 4 to 5.
With the juniors the A team were runners up in Div 1 so maintaining their position, the B team maintained theirs in Div 2 and the C team promoted from Div 4 to Div 3 which was an exceptional performance winning the Division.

Recent Friendly Matches. Won 5-2 at home against Launceston where it was unfortunate that a Tavistock lady was unwell shortly before the match so to avoid a postponement, it was agreed that the club played two men as the second pair. Tavistock players: Anne/Alan Bruce and John Donnellan/John Burgess.
In the annual Triangular mini tournament hosted by the club where the result is based on games won, Tavistock won with 43 points, Yelverton 38 and North Wyke 21 which was a very enjoyable evening?s tennis with some good play and included 3 hard-fought tie breaks. Tavistock players: Babette/John Jackson and Gaynor Pollard/John Burgess.
Juniors Rhys Dunford and Josh Brown recently entered the Royal Mail Plymouth Open and Closed Tournaments U14 boys where competition was tough with young players from all over the country participating. Josh entered three events and was the section 1 winner of the U14 Boys? Closed and narrowly beaten in the final. Rhys also, in the U14 Boys? Closed event at 10 years, although losing in the first round 3-6, 1-6 did well against a player much older and with a higher LTA rating.
Club tennis professional and coach Linden Hardisty had a tremendous week in Ilfracombe recently competing in the Men?s Open Singles event. After two tough rounds, he went on to win the tournament in the final playing the higher rated British Deaf No.1; 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
