Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3 Mannamead Ladies 1 THE ladies were missing a couple of regular players and Robynne Honey offered to go in goal. The game opened with both teams playing hard to gain as much possession of the ball as possible. Sarah Barratt played really well in midfield and linked well with Judy Miller and Laura Armstrong. Judy Miller was working well up front to try to outwit the opponents and with Jo Gaspar running her socks off the ball was fed into the D on numerous occasions. When Tavistock did lose possession of the ball it was the good intercepting play of Julia Firth and Laura Stapleton that allowed the game to be held up allowing more Tavistock players to get back and help the defence. Fiona Dunn and Lisa Butler kept the opposition out of the D and made some clearances to secure the ball. It was from a short corner deflection that allowed Tavistock to score the first goal with Judy Miller claiming the goal. This inspired Tavistock and it was not long before Julia Firth scored the second goal. Sue Gawman was working well and linked well with Butler and Gaspar. Tavistock should have made more of the ball in the attacking D but they could just not find the space to feed the ball into for another player to run onto. Not to be outdone, Armstrong had some good runs up the pitch strongly supported by Barratt and scored the third goal for Tavistock. A good team talk kept Tavistock focussed and when the team went back onto the pitch they were determined to hold onto this lead. A short corner was awarded to the opposition from which they scored, taking the score to 3-1. Honey had made some excellent saves in goal .
