TAVISTOCK ladies first hockey team had a strong squad for this opening match and the club welcomed some new faces to the team.
The visitors started brightly when from open play when debutant Sarah Law scored within two minutes. Becky Lamb used her pace across the pitch to drive the ball forward, with some excellent passing and play between Laura Armstrong and Sarah McClumpha in the middle of the pitch. Some strong tackles were made by Georgina Killingbeck, who worked well with the Tavistock defence to switch the play.
A number of attacking short corners were awarded to Tavistock during the game, with the second Tavistock goal scored from a mid-air rebound by Laura Langsford.
Totnes started to put the defence under some pressure with a some short and long corners in succession, and at half time the score was 2-1. Further convincing goals for Tavistock followed in the second half from Becky Lamb and new player Alice Toyton from open play to make the final score 4-2.
This was an excellent and encouraging opening game of the season.
