Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 4 St Agnes 1 THE game opened with good play from the midfield of Susannah Boulle, Laura Stapleton and Sarah Barratt. These players worked hard to feed the ball up to the running play of Jo Gaspar and Su Gawman. Tavistock had numerous opportunities when in the ?D? but did not look goal hungry enough. The defence of Tavistock were rarely troubled although St Agnes did have a few good attacks which allowed Fiona Dunn and Zoe Viggers to get in some good block tackles and run with the ball. Dunn linked well with Stapleton and Robynne Honey and Honey fed some excellent crosses into the ?D?. Tavistock were awarded numerous short corners but did not capitalise on these. When Laura Armstrong came onto the pitch the ball was driven with force but the opposition were quick to see Armstrong as a main threat and guarded her on the edge of the ?D?. Goalkeeper Bex Creasy made some good solid saves when the defence were being outnumbered in the ?D?. The half-time score was a disappointing 0-0. The second-half saw Tavistock lift their game with some good interceptions from Julia Firth and Lisa Butler. Honey scored the first goal for Tavistock within minutes of the second half picking up a rebound ball. Not long after this excellent goal came the second from Barratt. Honey chased a ball down that was nearly going off the base line and fed it across the ?D?. Barratt got on the end of it to secure it past the keeper. This was brilliant play from these two youngsters who are now maturing into skilful and quick thinking hockey women. The opposition had a lucky break and although Dunn, Boulle and Stapleton battled hard they could not prevent an early strike from St Agnes which claimed them their only goal of the match. The speed of Dunn and Boulle was too quick for the opposition and Dunn took the ball from them every time. Judy Miller and Gaspar were working well to find the space and Gaspar claimed the next goal with a lovely strike from a short corner. Barratt scored the final goal of the match with a lovely run up the pitch and took on three opponents to then slot it easily behind the keeper. This week Tavistock play Totnes at home, Bickleigh Barracks with a 12.30pm start. Player of The Match: Robynne Honey.
