THE Moorland Ladies' Darts League annual charity event took place on April 3 and was this year hosted by Victoria Social Club, Bere Alston.
The nominated charity was Headway in Plymouth, a day centre for adults with brain injury as a result of accident or illness.
The centre, whose patron is the Plymothian artist, Robert Lenkiewicz, also offers support to the families and carers of those who have undergone brain injury. One such is Neil Laing who fell through a roof some ten years ago — it was through his mother, Sylvia, a long standing playing member of the league, that this charity was nominated.
Several of the group's committee members and helpers showed their appreciation of the support the league was giving them by coming along to the event and throwing some darts.
The evening was a huge success, enjoyed by everyone, the format played being 'round the clock' and different from the normal league matches. Players and supporters entered into the spirit of the evening and raised more than £170 for the charity through entry fees and a raffle, all donated by the league teams.
The committee of Victoria Social Club donated £50 to the charity which was presented by the club chairman Colin Hicks, to May Ritsma who accepted it on behalf of Headway.
