Yate and South
Gloucester Hockey 2
Tavistock Ladies 2
IN difficult playing conditions both teams fought hard to gain possession of the ball.
Nell Trotter played extremely well in defence for Tavistock and coupled with Fiona Dunn and Lisa Butler it was hard for Yate to penetrate the D.
The visitor's midfield worked hard to feed the ball upto the forwards but the opposition were quick to intercept the ball.
Tavistock's Robynne Honey played well on the wing and fed the ball to Woodroffe who did her best to try to draw the keeper and then slip the ball to her other team mates.
Sarah Barratt kept working hard but it just appeared that the links were not there.
Yate were awarded a short corner and despite Barratt and Dunn being out quick the ball was struck extremely fast and hard and their was little the Tavistock defence could do to prevent the ball from going into the goal. Emma White was working well with Becky Lamb, who was suffering from an injury, and between them they blocked out some attacks on the right side.
At half-time Tavistock knew they had it in them to put up a better show . Anna Balm had a good second-half for the visitors and with Laura Armstrong playing right midfield in made a difference in how the ball was fed up to the running play of Woodroffe and Honey.
Woodroffe had the ball and reverse struck it at the keeper to score and equalise the score line. This goal lifted the team's spirits and with an added boost of enthusiasm it was not long before Honey scored the second goal for Tavistock. Claire Bruna on the left wing, Laura Stapleton in centre midfield and goalkeeper, Zoe Viggers, all had a good game.
Yate had the ball on the left hand side of the pitch and drove it down. Dunn put in the tackle from the wide left but the ball was slipped across into the D.
The ball was stopped from Tavistock but not cleared in time and this resulted in the opposition quickly gaining possession and slipping it neatly into the goal.
Tavistock battled back but there was simply not enough playing time to allow the team to score again.
l Tavistock were happy with the away point. This week they play at Marjons at 9.30am against Plymouth and Marjons.
