Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 4 Liskeard 2nd XI 1 THIS league hockey game opened with Tavistock definitely the dominant team. When the ball did look a threat to Tavistock Fiona Dunn was able to beat the opposition. The ball was fed up to Robynne Honey who made some excellent crosses into the attacking ?D? but unfortunately Tavistock missed numerous opportunities to put away some early goals. Liskeard scored first and Tavistock knew that they would have to up the standard of their game. With a good ball in from Butler, Stapleton saw the opportunity and put the ball away solidly past the keeper. This lifted the team?s spirits and Tavistock were quick to score again from a short corner routine. Stapleton struck the ball. It rebounded to Honey who fed it across for Julia Firth to stick past the keeper. The score at half-time was 2-1 to Tavistock and the team knew they would have to get more goals to secure the match. With Sue Gawman in midfield working with Barratt these two players battled well and Jo Gaspar up front was a key player in distributing the ball to the other forwards in order for them to secure the goal. Butler and Honey linked well and they drove through the opposition defences very easily. Babs Horton played well and made some good tackles but it was obvious that Tavistock were not pushed defensively in the second half allowing Dunn to push up the pitch and have some good links with Barratt, Armstrong and Firth. The ball was slotted to Firth who scored Tavistock?s third goal. Tavistock were now putting on the pressure and although this was not the team?s best game of hockey they were able to score again with an excellent shot from Honey, taking the final score to 4-1. This Saturday Tavistock take on Totnes away at 3pm and have a cup match on the Sunday against Teignmouth at Kelly College with a 1.30pm push back. Player of the match: Lisa Butler.
