Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 8 Liskeard 2nd XI 0 THIS was the penultimate league match for Tavistock Ladies 1st XI and so a win was vital for the team. With 13 players available for selection the team was confident that at all times they would be fresh on the pitch. The game opened with Tavistock taking possession of the ball and looking to dominate from the early stages of the match. Sarah Barratt and Jo Gaspar worked well through midfield and linked well with the running play of Laura Armstrong and Julia Firth. Robynne Honey worked her socks off on the right wing and was able to make some excellent crosses into the ?D?. The first goal came from Laura Stapleton who took a hefty strike from a short corner. With Judy Miller hanging on the goalpost it was only minutes later that she scored her first goal. Lisa Butler worked hard and with Fiona Dunn pushing up the pitch the ball always seemed to be in Tavistock?s attacking half. Substitutions occurred and Sue Gawman was on the pitch battling well in the middle. A good ball in from Honey allowed Gawman to score the third goal. Armstrong was working well and set up numerous chances to score but unfortunately these were not always capitalised on. Gaspar and Stapleton kept solid in midfield and with Emma White on the pitch it did appear that Tavistock were making every effort for no mistakes to be made. The ball started to be passed a lot quicker and the defence of Liskeard could not cope with the pressure. This allowed Miller to score again. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and it was through one of these that Gaspar scored the fifth goal. Tavistock were lifted by this effort and started the second half with just as much drive. Barratt had an excellent second-half and never stopped battling. Miller scored the next two goals as the ball was brought into the ?D? by the strong attacking play of Gawman, Armstrong and Barratt. Honey and White linked well and were always backed up by Butler. Barratt scored the eighth and final goal of the match. Tavistock were pleased with their win and now have to pull out all the stops in this week?s last league match against Falmouth. Player of the match: Fiona Dunn.
