Kingsbridge and Salcombe firsts 2
Tavistock ladies first 1
TAVISTOCK had a disappointing game this week with a loss at Kingsbridge, having beaten them earlier in the season.
From the start the home side played with determination putting the away side under immediate pressure. They worked the ball well and exposed gaps in the defence.
The away side's defence of Colston, Evans and Mills-Hicks tackled well though and distributed the ball back up the pitch. The home side were quick to cut any passes and then moved the ball swiftly around the pitch.
Tavistock's midfield were playing high and this allowed the home side more space when they attacked. The away's defence were outnumbered which allowed the home side to open the scoring. Tavistock tried to get a better grip and some good linking play down the right between White, Stapleton and McClumpha got the ball into the home side's 'D.' They were rewarded with an equaliser. The move started in midfield with White passing out to McClumpha, who made a great cross ball into the 'D' which was swiftly passed on by Armstrong to Gaspar, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.
This should have spurred the away side on more but slack passing allowed the home side more possession and Tavistock were under pressure again.
The Tavistock defence were under constant attack but managed to keep the ball out with Viggars, having another good game in goal making some crucial saves. The home side got their second goal when a strike was deflected off the goal post. The away team did have a better second half, passing better and working the ball up the pitch.
Lamb came on for the visitors and immediately made some good runs up the right getting the ball into the opposition's 'D' but due to a pulled muscle did not stay on the pitch for long.
Armstrong and Killingbeck on the left played well together but Tavistock just could not find the back of the net. More frustratingly none of the penalty corners that the away side were awarded were converted into goals.
The away side were still giving the ball away to much which the opposition capitalised on it but the away defence held firm. Colston and Boulle continued to distribute the ball well to the forwards but they could not increase their goal tally.
