OXFAM in Tavistock celebrated the 102nd International Women's Day with many visitors to both its shops.
There was much to celebrate for International Women's Day — death rates fell by half between 1990 and 2010, girls' education has improved significantly and women now make up 40% of the global workforce. However, the majority of people living in poverty are still women.
The Oxfam Bookshop had a special display feature of women authors, campaigners and women who are historically and socially important in celebration of the day and Oxfam in West Street used the opportunity to get together by knitting Easter ducks and sharing their skills with others.
The knitters included people from the Netherlands, Latvia and Switzerland as well as members from the Tavistock community, making it a truly international event.
Donations were made on the day for the knitting pattern and the ducks themselves, complete with eggs.
The money raised will be donated to improving women's lives around the world, including the UK.
