Kingsbridge Colts 26

Tavistock Colts 17

TAVISTOCK RFC Colts started well, setting up camp in the Kingsbridge half.

A great drive by Andrew Barwick was just held up but the pressure told and Kingsbridge were forced to concede a penalty. Duncan Law was first to react taking a quick tap and diving over.

Tavistock continued to press forward, Darren Sutton driving on with support from John Pain, but as the ball was swept wide, Kingsbridge intercepted and went the length of the field to score.

Tavistock were forced to defend. Addaway, combining with Richard Challends, averted a certain score in one corner but Kingsbridge retained possession and moved the ball swiftly to score in the opposite corner.

Kingsbridge continued to move the ball wide and were a constant threat. A great tackle by John Merrett cut their winger down, Alex Clayton was on hand to secure the ball and Tavistock were able to clear.

The second half started with Tavistock keeping play tighter. A drive by Phil Maloney was taken on by Hamish Pearse-Danker. He released quick ball for Adam Wilson to have a mazy run down the right only to be bundled into touch just short of the line.

Kingsbridge cleared upfield and another interception allowed them through for a simple try.

Tavistock had to raise the tempo. A drive was set up by Christian Boyd and with Josh Sutton making a half-break, Paul Harwood had just enough room to jink his way through to score in the corner.

Again, Tavistock came storming back, the forwards providing an excellent platform and from a scrum Stuart Blake picked and drove through the first line of defence before popping the ball to Duncan Law, who crashed over. Josh Sutton converted.

With time running out Tavistock threw everything at Kingsbridge but when the ball went loose, Kingsbridge were able to score to seal the match.

Man of the match: Andrew Barwick.
