Tavistock 1st XV 18

Honiton 1st XV 20

THIS was a disappointing result for Tavistock who dictated the game throughout and looked set to win until the final minutes.

Honiton opened the scoring with a penalty conversion and Tavistock reciprocated almost immediately via the boot of Adam Bridgewater. Tavistock applied good pressure in the first half, keen to establish a lead with the wind behind them in the second.

The pack drove well in open play and stole the Honiton ball on several occasions. From such a drive scrum half Lee Greatrex dived over the Honiton line to score from a scrum. Bridgewater failed to convert and at half time Tavistock led by 8 points to 3.

Honiton came back with more determination in the second half and were awarded a try at the bottom of a pile of players. The kicker converted and Tavistock slipped behind again, but only momentarily, Greatrex, showing great speed and agility, ran in his second try and the best of the game from a scrum outside the Honiton 22-yard line. This time Bridgewater converted and soon after added a penalty to his tally.

Unfortunately, Tavistock were haunted by a number of errors, which gave Honiton the advantage through penalties. When they scored another try they reduced the Moorlander's lead to only two points.

Sensing the danger, and with the previous week's last minute defeat fresh in their minds, Tavistock picked up the tempo. A forced error, however, gave Honiton another penalty, near the posts and only a minute from the final whistle, and Tavistock were denied another victory.

This week Tavistock have a friendly away fixture at Topsham and the chance to build on the many encouraging aspects of their game.
