FIFTEEN new affordable homes in Horrabridge are being let to local people in a partnership between West Devon Borough Council and Westcountry Housing Association. The £1.9-million development at River Park has been funded by £350,000 from West Devon Council, £750,000 from the Housing Corporation and £800,000 from Westcountry Housing Association. Westcountry Housing Association is the registered social landlord of the two and three bed homes and is working alongside the borough council to house local people. Families have moved into the homes in the last week and one of the first was Nick and Becci Monk with their two children Amy and Josh. As Cllr Margaret Garton, Chairman of West Devon Borough Council's Future Planning and Housing Committee, presented them with the keys to their new three-bed home, Mr Monk said: 'We're absolutely thrilled, it's a dream house for us.' Mr Monk, a builder, who was brought up in Horrabridge, said they had tried to look at buying a home but the prices were out of their reach. 'The fact that I can now bring up my family in the village where I grew up is brilliant.' Cllr Garton said: "These homes are another step towards addressing the affordable housing needs of the borough and I'm delighted that they provide a secure future for the families who have recently moved in. ' Westcountry's chief executive Julian Tuck said: 'I am delighted that this excellent example of a working partnership has meant that more affordable homes have now been provided for local people.'
