University of Plymouth 1
Tavistock A 2
TAVISTOCK men?s second hockey team played the Uni in very difficult weather conditions. The first half saw Tavistock play good hockey, but neither side could make the break through needed to take control.
Eventually Newman Jnr made a solo run down the right wing, and crossed the ball to the top of the D where Mackintosh was able to score Tavistock?s first goal.
The conditions appeared not to affect Uni and with constant pressure on the Tavistock defence they finally levelled the score.
With a stern talk at half-time, Tavistock went into the second half looking for the win. Uni, pushing most of their players forward, were caught out by the pace of the Tavistock forwards who linked well.
Newman Jnr, taking the ball into the opposition?s half, had only a defender to beat, passing the ball to Kelly who took it around the goalkeeper for Tavistock?s second and winning goal.
For the rest of the game Tavistock defended well with goalkeeper Osbourne making some superb saves. In the last minute, Uni struck the ball at the goal only to hit the post and bounce away.
Tavistock now with two wins climb to mid table.
