KELLY COLLEGE were well represented at The ASA South West Regional BAGCAT Championships, whose first weekend took place at Millfield School, Somerset.
The college sent six swimmers — five girls and one boy — for this most important date in the swimming calendar. From the 19 swims over the weekend, 15 personal best times were recorded, two new Kelly College age group records, plus two gold and one bronze medals.
Molly Redford. aged 13, took gold in both her events, the 400m free and the 200m fly, leading in both events from the start to the finish. Molly was preparing for the Scottish Nationals being held in Glasgow.
Victoria Moore, 10, competing in her first district championships produced personal best swims in all her events, in the 200m backstroke by over 15 seconds, which gave her a new Kelly College 10 year age group record. Victoria reached the finals in three of her four events, placing fourth in the 100m freestyle, fifth in the 200m backstroke and winning bronze in the 400m free with a very level headed mature swim, especially considering this was the first time that Victoria had swam the 400m freestyle in a 50m pool.
Ella Ellis, 11, swam in three events, achieving pbs in all and making the final of the 200m fly, placing fourth and just missing her National Qualifying time by 1.10 seconds, but breaking her own Kelly College age group record.
Erin Walsh, 13, made the 200m backstroke final, where she placed 4th, producing personal best swims in the heats and final. Daniel Gillard, 12, produced two personal bests in the 200m breaststroke heats and finals, placing seventh overall. Sophie Hastings, 13, in her first event representing Kelly College, swam her way into the 100m freestyle final where she was seventh.
All the above swimmers, plus Victoria Callow will be competing next weekend at Millfield School in the second weekend of the championships.
