KELLY College swimmer Cameron Brodie, who turned 18 last month, equalled his lifetime best in the 200m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.
Cameron narrowly missed out on a place in the finals to come tenth, with a time of 2.00.16mins beating fellow Scottish team-mates Andrew Mayor and Lewis Smith.
Cameron was the fourth fastest Brit and, after 150m, was in a position to match the best swimmers in the Commonwealth Games. Speaking to his coach, Kelly College director of swimming Robin Brew, Cameron said: 'I'm really pleased with my swim. The facilities here are absolutely fantastic. The pool is amazing! It holds 7,000 spectators. The first time I dived in it felt really good.'
Robin Brew said: 'With age on his side and another 18 months to prepare for the Olympic Games, Cameron has shown his full potential to compete at the very highest level.'
Cameron flew out to Delhi from Doha on Thursday. He said: 'The athletics stadium is out of this world. I have never seen anything like it before, just enormous! 'Once we arrived in the village I was just hit by the enormity of the whole thing.'
He was pleased with the athletes' accommodation, saying 'it was nowhere near as bad as everyone was expecting, with well appointed apartments, including special 'Commonwealth Games' duvets for the athletes.
'There's a huge food court with so many different things to try, with dishes from all continents,' said Cameron.
Cameron swims again in the 4x200m freestyle relay and also the 100m butterfly today (October 7).
