THE second round of the English Schools' Swimming Association Championships were held at Tiverton last Saturday.

Six Kelly swimmers, Sam Calcutt, Rachel Banfield, Beth Campbell Boseley, Sarah Thomas, Jemma Coates and Jacqui Couch, were all representing Devon in the South West Inter County Competition where the winners of each event were selected to represent the South West Region at the National Schools final to be held at Sheffield on October 26 and 27.

Rachel Banfield, one of Kelly's new and exciting prospects, showed her early season fitness in the 200m individual medley to win in 2.28.38 over medley specialist Michelle Nash from the University of Bath. Rachel just missed out in the 100 backstroke by 0.7 seconds to finish second to Siobhan Walsh again from the University of Bath and third in the 400m freestyle to complete a busy day.

Sam Calcutt, reliable as ever, produced two wins in the 50m and 100m freestyle in 28.11 and 61.55 respectively, Sam also finished second in the 100m butterfly.

Jacqui Couch, another new member of the Kelly squad, did well to finish third in the 16/17 years 100m breastroke in 1.21.72.

Beth Campbell Boseley and Sarah Thoams both produced second and fourth places, Beth in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle and Sarah in the 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke. Jemma Coates also produced a fourth place in the 100m breastroke in 1.21.57.

All these girls were competing at the lower end of the 14-15 year age group and will have one more year left before moving up.
