THE first round of the Daily Mail Cup saw old rivals Tavistock College and Kelly College face each other for the first time since year seven. In a closely contested game Tavistock U15s opened the scoring quickly with a well taken try from hard hitting centre James Lockley. This was soon answered by Kelly U15s after an awful kick off mistake by Tavistock?s forwards. Callum Thompson again put Tavistock ahead with a strong drive from the fly half position. The game see-sawed with a Kelly score. Lockley scored again before half-time to give Tavistock a lead of 21-17 at the break. All the conversions were successfully taken by Josh Leeson. The second half saw Tavistock lose the lead to Kelly 21-22 but it was immediately restored by a driving run from No 8 by Dan Oner. Again Kelly struck back and with ten minutes to go brought the score to 27-26. In a game where Tavistock had led seven times, Lockley completed his hat-trick and Tavistock?s team efforts won over the more talented individuals of Kelly College. The next round sees Tavistock drawn against the winners of Paignton v Kingsbridge. l Pictured above Tavistock on the offensive against the Kelly defence.
