Kelly College U14s XV 22

Wellington School U14s XV 19

KELLY had a great game on Saturday, meeting for the first time a previously unbeaten Wellington side.

Initially, Wellington put Kelly under immense pressure but the thin blue line held strong and persistent tackling stopped waves of attacks.

After ten minutes, Kelly broke from deep and Harry Wyatt went over to score, Guy Jedwab converted.

A similar pattern occurred after the restart except that Kelly did not convert. An error in handling allowed Wellington in to score but the conversion hit the upright and did not go over.

It was Kelly's turn to put pressure on and, after tidy rucking, Doug Willats dived over for a try which was converted..

The first quarter of an hour of the second half saw both teams struggling for supremacy. Wellington made the breakthrough, bringing the score to 19-12. Kelly then saw their hard work rewarded with a converted penalty 22-12.

The clock was running down and attacks from Wellington became more desperate but outstanding try-saving tackles from Harry Le Page, Harry Wyatt, Lorne Bell and Nathan Probert kept Wellington out.

With minutes to go, Wellington scored but there was no time left and their winning run was ended by good play from Kelly.
