WHITCHURCH Cricket Club?s ?past and present match? last Sunday saw three generations of batsmen play on the same green.
Two families each had three generations playing: Bob, Dean and Jonathon Elliott and Brian, Nigel and Billy Barriball, the latter of whom is the club?s youngest player.
Club captain Dean Elliott said: ?Whitchurch Cricket Club has been at this ground since 1949, and mine and Nigel?s dads started playing here soon after that.?
First team members Dean and Nigel soon followed their fathers to the crease, and now their own sons, Jonathon and Billy, are playing for the Under 11s.
Dean said: ?I think my wife thought her days of cricket were gradually drawing to a close, but now Jonathon has started playing and he is keen as mustard so she?s resigned herself to another few years in the pavilion yet!?
Sunday?s match was particularly special as Bob Elliott captained the veteran?s team while his son captained the current squad.
?Dad only faced one ball and didn?t score any runs?, said Dean, ?but he took a wicket ? it?s probably his first in 20 years.?
