KATE Allenby, the former world pentathlete champion from Tavistock, is in Korea for her last attempt to qualify for the Olympics to be held in Sydney later this year.
She finished a disappointing second in Texas two weeks ago having thrown away her chance for qualification with a poor shooting display.
'After my first shoot of the day I knew it was all over,' said Kate who finished runner-up to another former world champion, Kim Raisener from Germany.
'I fenced well and was pleased with my swim. I won the ride with a clear round on a really difficult horse which meant I was in third place and 23 seconds behind the leader on the final run.'
Kate, aged 25, picked off Polish competitor Dorta Idzi within 13 seconds and got within striking distance of Kim.
'But it was too much to make up,' she said. Training went well in Bath when the pentathlete got back from America despite having suffered up a bout of food poisoning.
She said: 'So it's fingers crossed this weekend as there is only one qualifying place left for the Sydney Games.'
